Mycelio’s 3 lb Red Milo Sorghum Spawn Bags are prepared with consistency and reliability in mind. Red milo sorghum is a preferred grain among cultivators for its balanced nutrient profile and even hydration, which supports strong and uniform mycelial growth.

All of our grain is processed in small batches. Each batch is soaked for 16–24 hours to induce germination of hidden contaminants. The grain is then boiled to optimal hydration, drained, and allowed to air dry on racks to achieve the proper surface moisture. Once dry, the grain is weighed into 3 lb polypropylene filter bags, pressure sterilized, sealed, and shipped.

Our spawn bags are made from high-quality polypropylene Unicorn bags, a trusted material in mycology. Each bag includes a 0.2 micron filter patch, which is crucial for allowing fresh air exchange while keeping contaminants out during the incubation phase. For easy inoculation, the bags are equipped with injection ports, which may be either built-in or stick-on. We highly recommend adding a piece of 3M micropore tape over the injection port after use to provide an extra layer of protection against contamination.
