How to Modify a 66qt Monotub for Mushroom Cultivation:
- Gather Your Tools:
- 2-inch Hole Saw: Purchase here.
- Dewalt Drill: Purchase here.
- Micropore Tape: Purchase here.
- Mark Air Exchange Holes:
- Use a marker to outline a total of four evenly spaced 2-inch circles on the two longer sides of the tub (two on each side) and an additional hole on each of the shorter ends of the tub.
- The two holes on each of the long sides should be placed near the bottom for substrate-level airflow, while the holes on the shorter ends should be positioned higher for fresh air exchange.
- Drill the Holes:
- Attach the 2-inch hole saw to the drill.
- Carefully drill each marked hole, ensuring clean, smooth edges. DO NOT PRESS TOO HARD. These tubs have a tendency to crack if not careful.
- Cover the Holes:
- Use micropore tape to cover each drilled hole.
- Apply multiple layers for bottom holes to reduce airflow and retain humidity while leaving a single layer or two on the top holes to allow fresh air exchange.
- Prepare the Tub:
- Add your liner, substrate, and spawn.
- Secure the lid and monitor conditions for optimal growth.
